Holiday Ribbon Card Holder
By ScrappyPam on Dec 7, 2010 | In Fun Projects
I am always looking for a good way to store my Holiday and Christmas cards. I don't have a lot of surface space, so I like to hang them somehow. Past ways have involved nails and tape, which my walls and doors don't appreciate very much!
I came up with something this year that is much easier on my house, is out of the way yet displays my cards beautifully. I have a stash of large Christmas ribbon (what, you're surprised?) to choose from for this project and an inside door that's perfect.
Here's what it looks like (click on the photo to enlarge):
What you need to make this Ribbon Card Holder:
1) An inside door with enough gap between it and the frame at the top and bottom so that it swings and closes freely with the ribbon on it.
2) A length of wide ribbon that is 6"-10" longer than the door. A wired, thick ribbon is preferable.
3) A length of string that is about 2-1/2 times as long as the door.
4) Two medium-sized grommets and grommet setter.
5) Clips or clothespins to attach your cards to your ribbon.
This is the back of the door. See how I wrapped the string around the doorknob as well. This is to keep the ribbon from sliding up or down. It should be snug, but not too tight.
A closeup of the grommets. I used a Crop-A-Dile to insert my grommets into the ribbon. Make sure you put the grommet far enough away from the edge of the ribbon so it doesn't pull out. About 1/2"-1" or so, depending on the thickness of the ribbon used. I folded my ribbon in half at the ends so that it would be stronger.
This project would work for other holidays - birthdays, anniversaries or anytime you want to display cards. It's easy to put up and take down and store for next time.
