Home Decor With Napkins
By ScrappyPam on Apr 10, 2010 | In Stamping, Fun Projects
I see pretty napkins in the store all the time and always have the urge to buy them and use them for something crafty. I refrain, because I'm afraid that I would then be overrun with napkins in my little studio! But I did purchase one package several years ago that I couldn't resist, plus it was on clearance - a bonus!
I've used a couple for small projects here and there. Today I used them on a slightly bigger project: A remote control holder. I had purchased this unfinished wood storage thingie months ago from Hobby Lobby; I'm just now getting around to decorating it.
I glued the napkins on the ends using gel medium and painted the rest black with dark gold trim (I wish I could say that I painted before I glued the napkins, but I can't - there's a tip for ya). Then I took some of the same gold and stamped the swirls (Tim Holtz's Flourish stamp) - and even dabbed some off-white paint on the stamp to reflect the white in the napkin pattern. Which didn't come out real well in the photo.
I'm not quite done covering the entire thing with glossy Mod Podge (as you may be able to see in the picture) but I wanted to get the photo before it got dark. I'll finish it up later, let it dry, then put it back in the living room so that we can keep some semblance of organization with all the remotes we have. (We have four - how many do you have?)
